The short answer

At 9 a.m. Saturday the Warren Labor Day 5K sets off from the Watchung Hills Pop Warner complex at 101 Old Stirling Road, across from Warren Middle School, on a course through East County Reserve. Warrenbrook Pool, shut all week because, in the county's words, staffing is limited now that school is in session, reopens Saturday through Monday, noon to 6 p.m., for what the county calls the final weekend of summer. Town Hall closes at 1 p.m. today, the final day of summer hours, stays closed Monday for Labor Day, and returns to 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays on Tuesday, September 8. Warren K-8 schools are closed today and Monday. Watchung Hills is open today, hosts Union in football at 7 p.m., and is closed Monday. The library is closed Sunday and Monday. Curbside recycling does not move: the next pickup is Thursday, September 10. The forecast is dry, with highs of 83 today, 79 Saturday, 74 Sunday and 77 on Labor Day.

Friday: the last short day at Town Hall, and a home opener

Town Hall is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the temporary offices, 3 Mountainview Road. The township calendar marks this as the day summer hours end. Regular hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., resume Tuesday, September 8. There is no Monday session because Monday is Labor Day.

Warren K-8 schools are closed today. The district calendar lists Friday as a closed day two days after the first day of school, which gives the K-8 students a four day weekend. Watchung Hills Regional High School is in session today, with underclass and faculty picture day on its calendar.

Football at 7 p.m. Watchung Hills hosts Union at 108 Stirling Road. The Warriors are 1 and 0 after a 14 to 0 win at South Brunswick on August 28, covered here Tuesday. The school calendar adds a Warrior Fan Zone kick-off event from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the JV baseball field before the game. If you are coming up Stirling Road from the south, the county bridge between Community Place and Dillon Court is still out, and the posted detour runs on Mountain Avenue and Hillcrest Road.

Saturday: the 5K at 9 a.m.

The Warren Labor Day 5K starts at 9 a.m. at the Watchung Hills Pop Warner complex, 101 Old Stirling Road. The township's notice describes a course through East County Reserve, age group medals, and a theme built around the 250th anniversary of the United States. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome. The registration page lists a $35 entry, $15 for children 13 and under, and a discount code for Warren residents. Medals go to the male and female winners in each age group, from 13 and under up to 70 and over. Race shirts were reserved for people who registered by August 6, so a late entry should not expect one. The registration page says this year's race supports the Warren Township Mayors Wellness Campaign, the same program that runs the September wellness walks below.

The complex sits directly across Old Stirling Road from Warren Middle School, 100 Old Stirling Road, and has a synthetic turf field and a grass practice field. Recreation is reachable at 908-753-8000, extension 271, or recreation@warrennj.org. Neither the township notice nor the registration page says where to park or whether Old Stirling Road closes during the race, and I could not confirm either point before publishing.

Saturday to Monday: three last days at Warrenbrook Pool

Warrenbrook Pool at 500 Warrenville Road is run by the Somerset County Park Commission, not the township. Its page carries a plain notice: with school back in session and staffing limited, the pool closed Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 4, and it reopens for what the notice calls the final weekend of summer, September 5 to 7, noon to 6 p.m. No later dates are listed. Pass and daily admission details are on the county's pool pass page, and the recreation office answers at 908-722-1200, extension 8404.

The weather

The National Weather Service point forecast for Warren, updated at 4:08 a.m. Friday, carries no watches or warnings and no rain in any period through Monday night.

DayForecastHighLow
FridayMostly sunny, northwest wind around 5 mph in the afternoon8363
SaturdayMostly sunny, north wind around 5 mph7960
SundayMostly sunny, northeast wind around 5 mph7456
Labor DaySunny7757

For the race, the overnight low before Saturday's start is forecast at 63 and the high of 79 comes later in the day.

Monday: what is closed, and one meeting I could not confirm

Town Hall is closed Monday. Warren K-8 schools and Watchung Hills are closed Monday. The Warren Township branch of the Somerset County Library System, 42 Mountain Boulevard, is closed Sunday and Monday on the system's holiday schedule. It is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday.

Recycling is not affected. Warren's curbside recycling runs every other Thursday through Somerset County, and the township calendar lists the next pickup on Thursday, September 10, then September 24. The county Recycling Division is at 732-469-3363.

The township calendar lists a Board of Adjustment meeting for Monday, September 7, at 7 p.m. in the Susie B. Boyce Court Room, 44 Mountain Boulevard, the same day Town Hall is closed. As of Friday morning the Agenda Center carried no agenda for that date. The board's most recent posted agenda is for August 3. I could not confirm whether the board meets Monday, and this post does not assume either way. If it does, the agenda should appear in the Agenda Center first.

Roads this weekend

The most recent Warren Township Police alert, still at the top of the department's feed Friday morning, is the one reported here Thursday: Mountain Avenue closed westbound between Dahlia Drive and King George Road for utility repairs. No reopening has been posted. The Stirling Road bridge replacement between Community Place and Dillon Court, closed since August 3, is a separate county project running about five months, and its detours are unchanged. Both are on the Warren roads page.

The week after

Regular Town Hall hours return Tuesday. Then the calendar fills up.

Later in September

Three more wellness walks. The Mayors Wellness Campaign announced September 1 that the series continues Thursday, September 17 at 6 p.m. with Committeeman Daniel McCarey at East County Park, Saturday, September 19 at 8:30 a.m. as a trail cleanup with the Open Space Committee at Glenhurst Meadows, and Friday, September 25 with Mayor Shaun Fine at East County Park. The release gives the September 25 walk as 6 p.m. and the township calendar lists it at 10:15 a.m., so check before you go. An earlier township notice, reported here August 17, had the September 19 trail day at Codington Farmstead. The September 1 release and the calendar now place it at Glenhurst Meadows.

Community vaccine clinics, Wednesday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 21, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Warren Township Courthouse, 46 Mountain Boulevard. The Middle-Brook Regional Health Commission and Green Brook Family Medicine are offering flu shots for ages 5 and up, senior flu shots for 65 and up, the Pfizer COVID vaccine for 12 and up, a one time pneumonia vaccine recommended at 50 and up, and the adult tetanus booster for 11 and up. The notice says the shots are free under most insurance plans, lists the plans it does not accept, including all HMOs and NJ FamilyCare, asks people to pre-register, and requires a parent or guardian with anyone under 18. Bring every insurance card you have.

Wagner Farm Arboretum's first Harvest Festival and Artisan Market is on the township calendar for Saturday, September 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 197 Mountain Avenue. The arboretum's own events page did not list it when I checked, so the township calendar is the only source here.

Cultural Day has moved to Saturday, May 1, 2027, 1 to 4 p.m. The township is asking residents who want to represent a country to write to recreation@warrennj.org by March 1, 2027.

All of these are on the Warren calendar, which is updated as the township posts dates.

What I could not verify

Parking and any road closure for the 5K: neither the township notice nor the registration page addresses them. Whether the Board of Adjustment meets on Labor Day: the calendar says yes, the Agenda Center is silent. The Wagner Farm Harvest Festival: on the township calendar, not yet on the arboretum's page. The Warrenbrook Pool notice does not give a rain policy or a last entry time. The September 25 wellness walk has two different times in two township sources. I found no township or county notice changing household trash collection for the holiday, so none is reported here. Corrections are welcome at john@nexthomepremier.com.
