Warren, Local. week ahead card: Mountain View Road paving, trunk or treat, early voting ends Sunday
RecordThe primary document, reported. What the labels mean

Starting at 7 a.m. today, Mountain View Road is closed to through traffic between Round Top Road and Mt. Bethel Road for paving, and it stays that way from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday. Warren police posted the closure Thursday and again Sunday afternoon. Local traffic can get through. Everyone else follows the posted detours. The township's notice puts striping on Thursday and Friday, weather permitting, so the road is not clear until the end of the week.

The other deadline is Sunday. In person early voting for the November 3 general election ends November 1 at 6 p.m., the same morning clocks fall back an hour and fourth quarter property taxes come due.

The short answer

Mountain View Road is closed to through traffic between Round Top Road and Mt. Bethel Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, October 26, through Wednesday, October 28, with local traffic allowed and striping set for October 29 and 30. Early voting runs through Sunday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, at six Somerset County sites, none in Warren. The Planning Board meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and the police Trunk or Treat is Thursday at 5:30 p.m., both at 44 Mountain Boulevard.

Monday: the paving starts and the K-8 board meets

Paving crews work Mountain View Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you live on the stretch, you can still reach your driveway. If you use it to cut between Round Top Road and Mt. Bethel Road, plan another way through Wednesday.

The Warren Township K-8 Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. at Warren Middle School, 100 Old Stirling Road, with a Zoom option listed on the district calendar. The Angelo L. Tomaso PTO's Feeding Hands essentials drive runs all week.

Tuesday: the mail-in ballot deadline and the Watchung Hills board

Tuesday is the last day to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail. After that, the county clerk's office takes applications in person until 3 p.m. on November 2.

At Watchung Hills Regional High School, 108 Stirling Road, the National Honor Society induction ceremony is at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The Board of Education follows in the Learning Commons, with an executive session at 7 p.m. and the public session at 7:30 p.m. Woodland School has picture retakes.

Wednesday: the Planning Board

The Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Susie B. Boyce Court Room, 44 Mountain Boulevard. The township's Agenda Center did not yet list an agenda for the meeting when I checked this morning. Its most recent posted agenda is for October 14. Land use background is on the zoning and development page.

The K-8 district holds a virtual Multilingual Learners Information Night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with RSVP required. Central School and Warren Middle School have picture retakes.

Thursday: the police Trunk or Treat

The Warren Township Police Department holds its Trunk or Treat at 5:30 p.m. at the department, 44 Mountain Boulevard. The Mayor's Wellness Campaign webinar series ends online from 7 to 8 p.m. with Building Brain Healthy Habits, presented with the Alzheimer's Association. Striping on Mountain View Road is set for Thursday and Friday.

There is no curbside recycling pickup this week. The next one on the Warren calendar is Thursday, November 5.

Friday: school Halloween events and a playoff game

Angelo L. Tomaso School's Trunk or Treat starts at 6 p.m. in the school lot at 46 Washington Valley Road, with a quiet creep from 6 to 6:15 p.m. for children who want a calmer start. Central School holds its Trunk or Treat the same evening, and Mt. Horeb School holds its Halloween parades.

Watchung Hills football plays at Middletown North at 7 p.m., a game MaxPreps lists as a playoff. The Warriors are 4-5 after a 28-7 loss at Bridgewater-Raritan on Friday.

Saturday and Sunday: Halloween, then the last day to vote early

The Jack Walsh Great Pumpkin Certified 5K runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mobus Field, Brookdale Road, Watchung, with online registration required. Wagner Farm Arboretum's Giving Garden volunteer morning runs from 9 a.m. to noon at 197 Mountain Avenue, the last one on the arboretum's schedule this year. The forecast for Halloween is mostly sunny with a high near 68.

Early voting ends Sunday at 6 p.m. You can vote at any of the six county sites. The two in towns that border Warren are the Bernards Township Community Center, 289 S. Maple Avenue, Basking Ridge, and the Bridgewater Municipal Court, 100 Commons Way. The other four are in Franklin, Hillsborough, Montgomery and North Plainfield. The Warren ballot carries the nonbinding Hofheimer House question.

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday. Sunset that day is 4:54 p.m., covered in the October 17 post. Fourth quarter property taxes are due November 1, the last of the four 2026 bills.

Roads

Warren police posted four road alerts since last Monday's week ahead. Two were the Mountain View Road paving notice. On Thursday morning, police closed Hillcrest Road to through traffic north of Mountain Avenue because of a water main break in Long Hill, with local traffic only. I found no later alert saying it had reopened, so check before you rely on it. On Saturday morning, a crash closed Liberty Corner Road northbound near Interstate 78.

The forecast

The National Weather Service point forecast for Warren, issued at 4:09 a.m. today, carries no watches or warnings and no rain through Sunday. Tuesday night drops to 38.

What I could not verify

Several items were not confirmed before publishing. The Planning Board had not posted its agenda for Wednesday. I found no alert saying Hillcrest Road has reopened. The district calendar lists Central School's Trunk or Treat and the Mt. Horeb parades without start times. I did not confirm the current status of the Stirling Road bridge closure, with background in the August 20 post. Library programs are not included, because the library's event listings did not load for me. Corrections are welcome at john@nexthomepremier.com.
