How a nor'easter put 131 streets on the Warren Daffodil Map
Bulbs bought for the cancelled Harvest Festival are going to Warren homes. 234 of 325 bags reserved, 128 homes delivered, 91 bags left.
NextHome Premier bought daffodil bulbs to hand out at Wagner Farm Arboretum's first Harvest Festival. A nor'easter cancelled the festival the day before, so the bulbs are going to Warren homes instead, reserved at warrendaffodils.com and picked up at our office or delivered to your door. As of Thursday night, October 1, 234 of the 325 bags were reserved and 223 homes on 131 streets were on the Warren Daffodil Map. 128 of those homes have their bulbs, and 91 bags are left.

Plan A was a table at the festival
NextHome Premier was the presenting sponsor of the arboretum's first Harvest Festival, set for Saturday, September 26. The plan was simple: a table, a lot of daffodil bulbs, and neighbors taking some home to plant.
On Friday, September 25, shortly before noon, the arboretum called the festival off. The forecast for Saturday was high winds from a nor'easter. The cancellation is covered here. The arboretum has the Harvest Festival back on the calendar for Saturday, September 25, 2027.
That left a lot of daffodil bulbs and no festival. Plan B: every bag goes to a Warren home.
Plan B was a website
warrendaffodils.com leads to a page on this site. It does three things.
- It takes your reservation in about a minute: name, Warren street address, pickup or delivery.
- It counts down the bags. The count started at 325. Each bag holds about 8 to 10 bulbs, so that is somewhere between 2,600 and 3,250 bulbs.
- It puts you on the Warren Daffodil Map. Every home that reserves gets a yellow dot, placed by street, with no names and no house numbers. When your bag is delivered, your dot gets an orange ring.
The one exception is my own house, the first dot on the map and the only one with a name on it. It is now outnumbered 222 to 1.
Then the reservations came in
Dots now sit on 131 Warren streets. Briarwood Drive East leads with nine. Softwood Way has six.
A few moments from the inbox:
- One address sent four reservations in nine minutes, under four different names. That house got four bags.
- On Sunday night, September 27, Greenwood Meadows sent 14 reservations in about two hours. I do not know who started it. Thank you, whoever you are.
- Thursday morning brought 19 more in under an hour and a half.
Door to door
I deliver the bags myself, one section of Warren at a time. There are seven sections, and 131 streets is a lot of driving.
Deliveries started Monday, September 28, around Sage Drive: 15 stops between 2:20 and 3:20 p.m. On Wednesday afternoon I did 19 stops in Greenwood Meadows in 55 minutes.
Most of you get a short email from me after the drop, saying where to look: front porch, front door, side door. If your dot is still yellow, you are on the list. Through Thursday, 128 of the 223 homes on the map had their bulbs. The other 95 are still waiting, pickups included.
The planting instructions, all of them
Pointy end up. About eight inches deep and eight inches apart. Somewhere that gets at least five to six hours of direct sun. Rutgers says to plant from mid-September through October, once the soil falls below 60 degrees. That is the whole manual.
About the deer: Rutgers rates daffodils Rarely Damaged, the best of its four deer ratings. The deer were not consulted.
See you in April
When they bloom, send me a photo. It goes on the map beside your dot, first names and neighborhoods only. Everyone who reserved gets an email when it is time. Send photos to john@nexthomepremier.com or text them to 732.236.1087.
Still want a bag?
As of Thursday night, 91 bags were left. Reserve one at warrendaffodils.com. Pick it up at our office, 102 Town Center Drive, or have it delivered to your door anywhere in Warren Township. No purchase, no obligation, while supplies last.
