Why daffodils, and how to plant them
Rutgers recommends mid-September through October, once the soil temperature falls below 60 degrees. Any time before the ground freezes still works.
Pointy end up. Pick a spot that gets five to six hours of direct sun. Water once after planting.
Rutgers rates daffodils Rarely Damaged by deer, its top rating. In Warren that matters.
Daffodils return every spring and spread over the years. Leave the leaves until they yellow so the bulb refuels for next year.
The Warren Daffodil Map
Every home that plants a bag can go on the map. It started with John's own house on Thomas Jefferson Drive. Each yellow dot is a Warren home that has reserved a bag, placed by street. An orange ring means the bulbs have been delivered. Deliveries began September 28 and will take some time, so check back. Reserve, plant, and tick the box on the form to add yours.
